Charles,

I own Sony components with both S control and S-link, and they are not the same. The S control is found on my VHS and SBeta VCRs, which allows interactive dubbing control between them (the VHS is a editing deck and can be a master or slave - the SBeta HiFi is only a slave). The S-link is a small ribbon cable that on my system connects my ES tuner to my ES preamp - allowing for remote operation with the preamp system remote (the tuner has no IR sensor). So from what I have seen, the S control seems to be found on their video products for the most part. My other ES components (CD player and analog cassette) do not have S-link so I can't say what possibilities might be there.
