Newbie and Confused

Just got an HK AVR-75 for $599.00 at Netmarket.com. Great site and good experience so far. Getting to the point, there are 'way' many connections on this thing. I don't understand what should be connected to what!. I've got a Panasonic TV with two inputs (one with SVideo) and something labeled; 'TO AUDIO AMP'. I have also got the Panasonic A110 DVD player. I have an old Canton three-piece satellite system ( a woofer with two satellites attached). They cost about $750 10 years ago and still sound pretty decent. No surrounds as yet. What's the deal with SVideo on the receiver? Why would I want to connect SVideo to the receiver? Confused by the connections....Please help.
