Dolby digital 5.1 and 2 channels

I have a confusen If some one can help.If I play DvD with Dolby digital 2 channels with the setting of dolby prologic on my amplifier the sound only come from centre speaker instead coming from front 2 speakers. If the dvd which is with 5.1 channels it play perfectly with sounds on all the five speakers. Please some one tell me why the sound only output from centre speaker in case of dvd playing with 2 channels. Where I am doing wrong with the connections or what??
