Find out if the TV you want to get has component video inputs for the DVD player (you get a little boost in image quality over S-video) and do you need the 717's features? I'd go with the 414 model for now (There are so many changes happening and coming up in the land of DVD that getting a more expensive player will just mean replacing it in probably 2 years or less anyway) They both offer the same sound and video specs. as far as I know, but no built in DD decoder on the 414, and prob. less fancy remote...
