On the rear panel of the DSP-A1 there is a column of paired connectors labeled "VIDEO SIGNAL". It is important to keep in mind that the left half of the column contains what are known as "composite" video connections while the right half of the column contains "S-Video" connections. The third pair of connections form the bottom of the column is labeled DVD/VCR 3 IN. This is where you would connect the ouput video signal from your DVD player to the DSP-A1. The last pair of connections in the VIDEO SIGNAL column is labeled MONITOR OUT. This is where you would connect the DSP-A1 to the video input on the rear of your TV.

Connecting the three units is fairly simple as long as you keep one thing in mind: If you use composite video cable to connect the DVD player to the DSP-A1, then you MUST use composite video cable to connect the DSP-A1 to your TV. You can just as easily use S-Video cables to connect the three units if your TV supports S-Video input (this is preferred since S-Video provides higher video quality). However, you CAN NOT mix S-Video and composite connections. The DSP-A1 can not convert input composite video signals into output S-Video signals or vice versa.

As far as your audio connections go, you want to make sure that if you are connecting the DVD player to the DSP-A1 using analog connections, you use the ones to the left of the DVD/VCR 3 IN video connections.

With all the connections established, when you select DVD/VCR 3 as your source on the DSP-A1, the audio will come from your stereo speakers and the DVD video signal will be passed on to your TV.

Remember that the DSP-A1 supports up to 5 input video signals. So, you can also hook up other video sources you may have (Laserdisc player, VCR, DSS system, etc..) to the DSP-A1. In this type of setup the DSP-A1 works as an A/V selector whereby multiple A/V inputs can be routed through a single output.
