Front Speaker Static

Posted by Gary J. Thomas [IP: 38.30.162.18] on December 31, 1998 at 00:12:33:

Helping my brother with his HT:

At higher volumes, his Bose Acoutimass 6 front speakers are putting out a lot of "noise" under the sound. The "noise" varies with the cable station (some better, some worse) and the VCR tape being played. I've also noticed it, though not as obvious, when playing music cd's. I'm sure everything is properly connected. Any possible solutions?

1. Can it be lousy source material? I have a satellite & dvd & I forget how bad cable and an old vcr can sound. His CD player is 10+ years old as well.
2. Can the tv be causing the static? Due to his Home Entertainment Center, the bose speakers are right next to the sides of the TV.
3. Would better speaker wire help? Bose provided the speaker wire which is much smaller than the 14 gauge I'm using.

Any suggestions?
