DSD, new 5.1 format???? It's a keeper. DTS is likely to be nothing more than a sideshow - if it survives. When the large record companies have widespread alternative formats (backward compatible too) they're unlikely to support DTS, especially as they know their product will always be late. "Celine Dion's new album, coming in the Autum…. Spring… Summer…." The big fight will be between the official DVD-Audio standard MLP, and the rival SACD. Dolby have a huge number of companies signed exclusively to them for multi-channel audio, but the Sony system can count on the support of their record companies, so it is likely we'll need both formats if we are to listen to the music of our choice. We could say much the same now in regard to DTS, but let's face it, their software catalogue is hardly attractive and I don't know anyone who has a DTS decoder who owns more than half the available titles. So, the formats to concentrate on are Dolby Digital, MLP and SACD. Dolby Pro-logic will of course be around for a long time to come, catering for all analogue delivery formats.
