I seen a piece at a Theatre store the other day that was really expensive to buy but could me made very inexpensive and look really good considering how this sounds. It was 8 pieces of 5/8 threaded steel rod.( painted black) and wood shelving with holes drilled for the rod. all of the shelves were adjustable using the nuts ( also painted black ). It was very sturdy and practical.
