surround setup Posted by Alan Maier[SysOp] on September 21, 1998 at 20:58:02: In Reply to: surround setup posted by Mike Scott on September 21, 1998 at 14:59:21: Mike, Your best bet for now is to connect the VCR to your receiver at one of the video source inputs. I strongly recommend using the VCR for TV audio if you wish to view a program in stereo and listen with surround sound. You will find that broadcast television has poor surround sound, so you will be set up for those hifi videos (I am assuming you have a hifi VCR). You have 2 options for connecting the VCR to the television, go through the reciever using the video out, or better yet run a seperate set of connecting cords to the television. If you must, you can use "Y" cables to split the signal. For the antenna or cable feed, use a 2-way coaxial splitter and feed the VCR and TV with it's own feed - don't "daisy chain" them by connecting the cable to the VCR then to the television. You can obtain a new owners' manual from Sony at a resonable price. I don't have their parts deparment number handy, but you can find it at their web site. You might have to call a number and possibly obtain a parts deparment number from their voice menu. I recently bought a replacement manual and S link cable from them and received very good service. Best regards, Alan : I recently tried to set up a sony STR DE505 reciever into a surround sound configuration and am having trouble incorporating the TV and VCR. Not sure what wire goes where. I don't have the instructions to the system.
