IS A DISH WORTH THE INVESTMENT?? I have a dish and still subscribe to cable to get the local stations, though at a much cheaper rate. Ask your cable company. I pay an extra $13/month for local stations from the cable company. But compared to what it used to cost me for cable ($37 for extended basic), the cost of the satellite programming and the local stations ($29.95 + $13) is really not much more, but the benefits justify it. On my satellite receiver (Sony SAT-A3), I can "turn off" any channel that I don't regularly watch. The menus and guides are very customizable. I only see what I want to see. It's also nice to get TV Guide-style previews of each program. The pay-per-view options are more plentiful as well. Picture quality can't be beat (by cable that is). Depending on where you live, a regular antenna on the roof or in the attic will suffice for the local stations. I've been paying that stupid $13/mon. for that past year and realize that I could have used that money to buy a very decent antenna. Hope this helps.
