Sharp LCD Projector

My friend is going to have a Sharp LCD projector installed for his home theater. He will have a DVD player and a VCR with a cable signal. The Sharp projector and the DVD player both have component video connections. I know that component video is the optimum connection, but is there a A/V receiver that will allow a component video connection? I know that most A/V receivers have S-Video connections. What is the most convenient connection to an AV controlling all audio and video, and sending the best signal to the Sharp LCD projector? Any help would be greatly appreciated
