Yet another Optical/Coaxial question...

Posted by Dennis Pagoulatos [IP: 153.37.7.30] on January 28, 1999 at 16:25:57:

I need some opinions on the following situation:

My Sony receiver has 5 optical ins, but only 1 coax.

Very nice, however I have a Pioneer LD player and a Panasonic DVD player that I connect to it. The problem here is that I have a RF demodulator with only a coax. output as an option, so my LD player needs to use the coax. input on my receiver. My DVD player is forced to use a short (1 meter) optical cable which I bought, which is admittedly of marginal quality.

I've heard so much about the "reflections" in optical cables and everyone seems to prefer the "sound" of coax connectors, including me as it turns out (after trying both on my DVD)
but is this because my optical cable is less than stellar? Will buying an expensive optical cable of equal length (1 meter) bring the sound quality closer to the sound of the coax.?

Opinions anyone?
