WHy is 40% of DVD screen black??

Oh no! There is a mushroom cloud where my monitor was ;(

Yes I do believe it is time to update that horrible photo of me.. I took it with my old Casio digital camera which I retired long ago, In fact I am needing to update my current Canon Powershot 350, and an Olympus is the way to go. The Canon does so much so well - but it suffers from poor optics either by poor design or by a flaw in my sample.
