However, considering you have a Sony receiver (ES series, perhaps), it should not be that big of a concern for you. That's a terrible over-generalisation and the concept that you need a high-end system to hear the differences in cable is very flimsy. In fact, if a transmission link causes errors in a signal, it will be the poorly designed and susceptible (cheap?) equipment which will be most effected, expensive home theatre controllers often include improved error correction and de-jitter circuitry. In fact, the transmission method, be it optical or electrical cannot effect Dolby Digital or DTS bitstreams at all, other than to cause total loss of the data. Incidentally, only Dolby Digital RF signals, always transmitted via an electrical system do benefit from a higher quality cable simply to contain the RF and avoid external contamination.
