dvd player direct to amp

I've ordered the Toshiba 3109 dvd player, to be shipped in Feb. It has built in DD decoder with speaker and bass management features.

I would like to run this straight to my 5 channel amp without any preamp involved.

Does anyone know if I will be able to control the volume with this arrangement? Are there any dvd players currently available that have a volume control that controls the unit (as opposed to a volume control on a learning remote that would learn to control the preamp's volume control)?

If I cannot control the volume with my direct to amp set up, can anyone make a suggestion other than getting a cheap dd ready receiver?
