Would a line conditioner help?

Posted by Pete [IP: 149.112.154.176] on January 31, 1999 at 17:35:04:

I live in a small apartment and most of my equipment is on the same electrical path from the fuse box. Lately, while standing next to my TV opening a CD case, I noticed a hum coming out of my center channel speaker while my receiver was in a stereo mode. Then, later, when I turned on my iron, I noticed an extreme amount of buzzing coming out of the center channel speaker. I can only guess that I am experiencing some kind of isolation problem within my new HK AVR-65. My main concern is that this added noise is really annoying and a little disconcerting.

Will a line conditioner protect my equipment and provide the line isoslation that I should otherwise be getting from my HK receiver??
If so, what would you recommend?
I have read reviews stating that these things rarely work as well as they could.

Lastly, could this poor power/ground isolation damage the eletronics over time?
