dvd player direct to amp Posted by shelly schachter [IP: 206.55.224.81] on January 31, 1999 at 18:00:54: In Reply to: dvd player direct to amp posted by Bryan P. on January 31, 1999 at 10:02:58: I want to use my dvd player to hear 5.1 discrete music and musical movie soundtracks in my main music room. This room uses an analog Circle Surround decoder and DB Systems paassive line switcher connected directly to the 5 channel amp. There are no digital inputs or outputs. I plan to add video in the future, and, at that time, will add a proper digital preamp to control speaker levels and remote volume. I do not plan to add a cheap dd ready receiver in order to gain volume and speaker level ssetting control over the dvd player. I also will not change the individual volume pot adjustments on the amp. At worst, I won't be able to use the dd section of the 3109. I can, however, use its 24/96 analog outputs to feed the Circle Surround for either cd or dvd playback. Hopefully, this in itself should improve over the already excellent sound reproduction that I get. But I am curious as to how true discrete 5.1 music would sound with my all Gallo speakers in the music room. I have a ht room which uses a dd digital receiver with 5.1 inputs as well (I have the CS connected to the external input mode.). I will be able to A/B between the CS and the DD for my own comparisons in this room, although the equipment and speakers are not near as high end as the music room. Thanks for the input. Someday, dvd players may have their own internal volume and speaker level controls. To any Toshiba 3108 dvd player owners--are the speaker lesvel test tones just sent to the preamp or can you control the levels of each speaker from within the dvd player?
