Yes, it's picture is unbelievable, sound is unreal, it is a wonderful investment. Get the RCA dish that can receive Dolby Digital sound, that is a must (app. $500 installed) and with Christmas coming up you should be able to get a good deal somewhere. Check Circuit City, Radio Shack or Sears.

It costs about $33/mth for the USBB movie channels, and $37/mth for the Direct TV Silver Choice. I don't even watch local TV anymore because there is always something to watch elsewhere. Local stations can be had by a good roof-mounted antenna, or a "life-line" from your cable provider for app. $8-$13/mth depending on your location.
