: Why don't they just use Dolby Digital as a music audio format?

I don't know, I would have thought they could but it's too late, Dolby and WG-4 has adopted the specs on the DVD-audio discs so here we go again with the same old tired discussions of when and if the new format will be out and accepted by the public. Unfortunately, the specifications they wrote left it open to other audio formats like Sony's and Philip's SACD.

It all comes down to money.

: What the hell is going on with DTS?

They are a bunch of morons, and I would not buy their software now if my life depended on it after making us wait for DTS DVD for the last 1.5 years. From what I have heard on this forum and read in magazines the DTS format is going to die a horrible death, especially with the recent introduction of 5.1 channel audio (DVD-Audio and/or SACD). The only software DTS has besides the ternminal Laserdisc format is in CD's and one of the two above mentioned audio formats will wipe DTS from the home market for good, then we won't have to hear comparisons anymore between DD and DTS. I would not spend any money on DTS for a while until the new Audio wars are finished and all the smoke has cleared.
