Buzz during applause in sit-coms Posted by Ken Simmons [IP: 208.26.190.241] on February 06, 1999 at 15:47:48 In Reply to: Buzz during applause in sit-coms posted by John Bowen on February 05, 1999 at 15:46:32: : Is this true of all Surround Sound decoders or just Yamaha's. I can't believe it's not able to be fixed. John, what you're experiencing is ** NOT NORMAL **. Does this phenomenon happen with ANY OTHER INPUT MATERIAL (i.e. cassette tape? VCR playback? CD playback?)? if it does, then yes indeed, the Yamaha is at fault. As Perfesser Robinson already remarked, try palying back a SURROUND-ENCODED videotape (need a Hi-Fi VCR to do this), Laserdisc, DVD, or even a "classical" CD with the receiver in ProLogic mode. "Crank" the center channel amp for this test. If it still "buzzes" with these NON-TV sources, then your receiver might be at fault. HOWEVER, before you "condemn" the receiver, DISCONNECT THE CABLE-TV COAX from your TV (and/or VCR) and see if the "buzzing" disappears from the "non-TV" sources. If it does, CONGRATULATIONS - you're the victim of "ground loop" and need to read my article on Ground Loops over on the main SMR site. :) If it doesn't, then either "condemn" the receiver to the Repaire Shoppe OR take it back and get another receiver of different "pedigree" (i.e. Marantz, Onkyo, Harmon Kardon, Pioneer). Good luck and I hope this helps a little? :) Ken
