: I hope this isn't too stoopid of a question, but......

The only "stoopid" question is the one not asked! ;)

: I'm wondering if I should actually have a door on this room.

IMHO, "take a cue" from your local MOVIE THEATER. Yes, have a door to the room - the "gross volume" will be MUCH HIGHER than if it was open. HOWEVER, hang a soft, opaque CURTAIN in front of the door for "aesthetics". Just remember to COVER THE WALLS with "theater fabric" (i.e. dark-colored drapery) and make the curtain in front of the door THE SAME MATERISL you'll hang on your walls.

Finally, do something similar for the ceiling.

In this way, you'll minimize "reflections" (i.e. echoing) and the overall sound should be much more pleasing.

Just my few bytes. I'm sure there are books around on Home Theater construction/setup. :)
