where is "how to build" coax cables? Posted by Ken Simmons [IP: 208.26.191.9] on February 06, 1999 at 19:15:03 In Reply to: where is posted by Nigel Pond [SysOp] on February 06, 1999 at 16:45:27 : Steve's instructions are specifically geared to digital audio coax cable, but I have used them for analogue audio and they work pretty well in that application too. Main problem is suppliers who will ship the cable in less than 100' lengths!! What's the "material" difference 'tween "digital" and "analog" cable? they're both ELECTRICAL CONDUCTORS! As an Electronic Tech, I call it all "marketing hype" as copper has the same electrical, elastic, velocity, etc. characteristics regardless of its' use. FO (fiber optic) OTOH, is a TOTALLY DIFFERENT animal entirely! :) But, this "rant" is off the topic. Sufficeth to say, if you use careful construction practices and good parts, you'll make a great-operating cable for analog or digital (which is simply "two-level" analog!) use. I also agree with the "minimum requirements". Oh well, "bite the bullet" and get the whole spool - after all, cables DO NOT "last forever" and eventually need replacing. And, you can always "go into business" making cables for friends, etc. and charge "an arm and a leg" for your "custom-brand, one-of-a-kind" interconnects.... ;> Ken
