where is "how to build" coax cables? Posted by Ken Simmons [IP: 208.26.191.117] on February 07, 1999 at 16:39:33 In Reply to: where is posted by SMR [WizOp] February 07, 1999 at 14:59:13 : Impedance, digital should be 75ohm, analogue cables can be all over the place. Bandwidth is another consideration, some esoteric analogue cables are unsuited to frequencies in the megahertz range. A Dolby Digital RF cable should be at least double screened to prevent contamination (either way) whereas analogue audio doesn't effect its surroundings. Heck, if I understand my "transmission line" characteristics, ALMOST ANY "audio interconnect" has a "characteristic" impedance of 70-80 ohms, even though they're usually feeding a "600 ohm" (approx) line input. Therefore, "almost any" good-quality RCA-terminated interconnect should work quite well. :) Besides, "line impedance" only achieves relevance at frequencies over 100KHz anyway... ;) : Having said that, you'd give away your product to friends, not sell it. ;-) That's what you think. I'd charge a "nominal fee", say 20% over cost, to cover my time, etc. ;) Ken
