: I would like to hold all my 400-600 CDs in one or more mega CD changers. Furthermore, I would like to be able to put away (in a closet) the bulky CD changers and only see an elegant control unit that shows the CD title and perhaps track name (or #). Is this sort of configuration possible? Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Nirvis Systems (www.nirvis.com) makes a fine bit of software to control multiple Sony changers (up to 200 CDs per). Will also play MP3s. It uses CDDB to read the CD track info (presumes an internet connection). Works wonders. Runs from a windows box. He also has the Slinke which routes IR commands, so you stick an IR receiver in the room somewhere and it sends. It can also be 'smart' and send bedroom IR controls to the setup in the bedroom, leaving the living room sound alone. He's working on a digital crossover switch for the stacks of CD changers in his office.

Very cool (except for being bound to windows). Source code available; you could have it send Title/track into to an LCD (or your palm pilot).
