Coax Cables for Digital hook-up Posted by Nigel on October 05, 1998 at 13:47:07: In Reply to: Coax Cables for Digital hook-up posted by Ken on September 23, 1998 at 11:19:20: OK first of all if you connect the regular coax output and AC-3 RF coax aoutput of your LD player to your receiver you can forget about the analogue audio outputs - you will only need the digital ones. Your receiver is likely to have better digital to analogue converters than your LD player so use digital connections only. For both of these the cable should be 75ohm coax cable for the best results. Most people I know use good quality 75 ohm video cables for this purpose and they work very well - forget that it is is labelled "video cable" - it is the contruction of the cable that is important not the label on it. Similarly for DVD hook up - use digital outputs/inputs for audio. For video connections for DVD you should use s-video connections if at all possible - this will give you better video quality than the composite (RCA) connections. For LD experiment with s-video and composite - the video on LD is stored in composite format so use which ever connection gives the best picture (which will depend on whether your TV or LD player has the best comb filter, but let's no go into that here.)
