DTS DVD's and DVD-ROM

Posted by Greg Summers on October 19, 1998 at 22:31:31:

I have a Creative labs DVD-ROM in my computer and am going to purchase the SONY STR-DA50es receiver.

In asking these questions I assume that my DVD-ROM will not play DTS DVD's as is. If you know nothing about DVD-ROMS and decoder cards these questions may confuse you. When I say decoder card I mean the card that you must have inside a computer to decode the MPEG-2 video, not a seperate Dolby Digital/DTS decoder audio component.

1> Are there any DVD-ROM packages out there that claim they can extract DTS bitstreams and send them to a receiver with DTS decoding?

2> Can I just purchase a new decoder card that will send the DTS signal to my Receiver with-out having to buy a new drive or is the ability to extract DTS signals part the Drive itself?

3> if nothing like this currently exists...have you heard anything about it coming in the future?

The reason I'm asking these questions is that I would rather just spend a hundred bucks on a new decoder card then go out and buy a whole new "stand alone" DVD player for MUCH more.

thanx in advance
