Stuart

Do you know if the Sherwood/Newcastle R-945 does convert the analogue signals to digital? The manual doesn't do a good job at documenting this kind of stuff.

: Ken,

: : Would I get better sound using a Tos-link than using the analog outputs?

: It really depends on the quality of the DACs you're going to use and the analogue stages associated with them. By using the Tos-Link output of your player, you're using the DACs and analogue stage in your receiver which may be superior, judging by the results you're hearing from the Panasonic DVD.

: Another thing to bear in mind, many modern receivers/processor convert the analogue inputs to digital for internal processing, then back again so that you can listen to the outputs. Therefore you have an extra level of processing, the A/D conversion. It's usually best to avoid that if you can.
