Do Interconnect Cables make a big difference?

I recently upgraded my home theater system & I have to purchase a number of cables, including a pair of RCAs interconnects for my CD player, an Optical Toslink, & a sub cable about 24 ft long.

Do I have to spend an "arm & a leg" for the cables? Can anyone provide me with some reasonable prices for cables?
