Need Dolby Advice

I need to replace my HT system and wanted to know what the latest version or chip for DPL is and what I should be looking for.

I do not have a DD5.1 source yet, but would like the inputs.

I am debating versus the idea of a good receiver or preamp/amp setup. But I can not find good recent preamps with DPL. I am considering also a receiver now and buying amps later with the receiver being used as a preamp.

I would like to buy these items used - preferably - because of the cost of new equipment and the budget of a grad student on loans. I think this is preferable to buying a low end Kenwood/technics receiver.

I currently have JBL L7's front and Polk monitors for rears.
