bitstream but in what format?? - 24 bit/96 Khz, the way the DVD laser reads it, or does it truncate the precision to 20 bit/48 Khz?

DVD players are capable of outputing the true 24/96. However, Sony claims that the S/PDIF is not capable of outputing anything beyond 20/48, so any such claims by Pioneer or others are over ambitious. Can anybody shed any light on this? Guys who have Sony, Pioneer,
or Panasonic, can you look into your manuals and seewhat it says.
