AC 3 / coax / DTV systems

Does anyone know of an 18" satelite system with coax ouputs for AC3. 3 yrs ago I purchased an Elite VSX 99 with coax inputs for satelite and LD (AC 3). The new RCA system has Toslink. I'm not really interested in LD or DVD. To this day I have not heard the first AC 3 sound from my system. There is a toslink to coax converter avialable with claims of no jitter. Is this possible. Also, I have heard rumors of cable offering digital AC 3. If this is true maybe I'll switch back to cable. Any opinions are appreciated.
