DVD-ROM: quality compared to separate DVD-player?

Posted by Mark [IP: 193.130.129.195] on October 27, 1998 at 04:53:26:

Hi there,

I've build a nice home theatre system with a 32" widescreen tv, Pioneer LD-player, Sony EP9ES DD and Marantz AV600THX/MA700 amplification. To jump on the DVD (rent) wagon I plan to buy a DVD player. Since I've got a pretty powerful PC (P2-400) it's silly not to use it, so I want to buy the latest Creative Labs Encore III-set. Monster Cable (I've got Monster all around) told me that cable length isn't a problem. My only question is: how is the quality of a DVD-ROM compared to separate DVD-player, both sound and picture? Anyone any experiences?

Thanks!
Mark
