There probably is no difference between the two: you can hook up an S-video source (DVD, DSS, some laserdisc players) to either one. You just have the option to hook up more than one and switch between them. My receiver doesn't have S-video, however; I have it going directly to the TV. I'd check in the manual just to make sure that they aren't each dedicated to a particular source.
