: Does anyone know of an 18" satelite system with coax ouputs for AC3.

Both Dish and DSS offer some PPV movies in DD. You need the new RCA DSS receiver wto output the DD datastream on DSS. For Dish I think all receivers have a DD output. No idea if they are coax or toslink.

:3 yrs ago I purchased an Elite VSX 99 with coax inputs for satelite and LD (AC 3). The new RCA system has Toslink. I'm not really interested in LD or DVD. To this day I have not heard the first AC 3 sound from my system. There is a toslink to coax converter avialable with claims of no jitter. Is this possible.

The MSB Digital Director - original version (around $390 list), will convert coax to toslink and vice-versa. It would be overkill for what you want as it has 4 coax and 2 toslink inputs, and 2 coax and 1 Toslink output. Fostex also make a simpler cable converting one way or the other.

: Also, I have heard rumors of cable offering digital AC 3. If this is true maybe I'll switch back to cable. Any opinions are appreciated.

When digital cable systems are introduced (in my area next year) they should have DD compatibility. Of course whether the idiots at the cable companies will buy boxes that have digital outputs is anyone's guess. When I asked a tech guy at my cable company if the new boxes would have coax or toslink digital outputs, he didn't know what I was talking about or why it was important to have any digital output.

If you have satellite I would stick with it.
