: The S/PDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interface) coaxial and optical output that all DVD players output the PCM stereo and Dolby Digital
: bitstream but in what format?? - 24 bit/96 Khz, the way the DVD laser reads it, or does it truncate the precision to 20 bit/48 Khz?

: Sony current DVD players tuncate the digital bitstream to 20/48 when outputing through the digital out, but Pioneer claims that it's
: DVD players are capable of outputing the true 24/96. However, Sony claims that the S/PDIF is not capable of outputing anything beyond 20/48, so any such claims by Pioneer or others are over ambitious. Can anybody shed any light on this? Guys who have Sony, Pioneer,
: or Panasonic, can you look into your manuals and seewhat it says.

Some Pioneer DVD players (and transports using Pioneer OEM parts, like the Theta's) can output a 24/96 digital output even though strictly speaking it is not allowed by the SPDIF specification. For that reason the assumption is that when we start seeing DVD Audio compatible hardware it will have some other form of digital connection, maybe firewire.
