: Hi there,

: I've build a nice home theatre system with a 32" widescreen tv, Pioneer LD-player, Sony EP9ES DD and Marantz AV600THX/MA700 amplification. To jump on the DVD (rent) wagon I plan to buy a DVD player. Since I've got a pretty powerful PC (P2-400) it's silly not to use it, so I want to buy the latest Creative Labs Encore III-set. Monster Cable (I've got Monster all around) told me that cable length isn't a problem. My only question is: how is the quality of a DVD-ROM compared to separate DVD-player, both sound and picture? Anyone any experiences?

: Thanks!
: Mark

I purchased a PC DVD Encore from sound Blaster and hooked it up to a P 233 Sound card is the Live value. The only regret I have is I didnt go to the full version of the SoundBlaster Live ( it has RCA outs for sound) The sound on the value is just a bit muddled but still very good. I am 45 feet from the DVD to Reciever and used Ultra Link cable (SVHS) with no degredation in quality. Quality is better than my laser disk player
