Yes in some areas they are offering DD. I ordered this service about three weeks ago. However they will not begin DD broadcasting until December (that what the cable representative said). When the digital broadcasting begins they said that they would send someone to install a card which would give the box the apporpriate connections for DD.

After many hours trying to explain how DD differed from DPL I was transfered to a tech. So yes I share your frustration.
