? hooking up two different spkrs to same channel Posted by SMR [WizOp] [IP: 212.211.25.13] on October 30, 1998 at 02:00:37: In Reply to: ? hooking up two different spkrs to same channel posted by Scott Weakland on October 29, 1998 at 16:07:06: Scott, : I have two types of speakers, Bose 201, and Boston HD9's. Both are 8ohms, and I like to hook up the two Bose, to the left channel and the two Boston's to the right, then I can use the balance control to weight the two types of speakers differently. To each his own, but I've got to ask, why would you want to do such a thing? The result will be a totally unbalanced soundstage with little or no imaging, incoherent sound pans and uneven frequency response. It would be much better to use just one pair, perhaps, if you're dissatisfied with what you have now selling the Bose and Boston and upgrading to something a little more to your liking. As to your wiring question, your Yamaha may just be able to drive the load if you have the loudspeakers wired in series, but I'd watch out for amplifier clipping at moderate volume levels. Also bear in mind that the L/R loads will be uneven across the spectrum (different models have different impedance curves) which is another good reason not to hook up the two pairs as you intend.
