For DVD with a Dolby Digital system I feel they are almost a necessity. I made my own for underfloor placement about a year ago. I have not tired of it. If under furniture is all you are going to do I would recommend the Aura's. Variety Discounters sent me a pair for review. Info on my page. At $37 a pair including shipping is hard to beat. Check out my Aura review on my page. Ebay also has them for $37 total but I believe that is also thru Variety Discounters. It is the biggest bang for buck improvement I have ever made to my Dolby Digital system.
