I can only assume you are talking about covering all surfaces (except the floor!) with the foam. IMHO, it would indeed be too dead but only at low-mid to high frequencies. I doubt the foam would do much to help with any bass problems as the waves would probably pass right through them.

I prefer somewhat more live side walls with a pretty dead wall behind the front speakers (unless you are using bipole/dipole speakers) The back wall needs some deadening at the high frequencies to help eliminate phase bounce problems between reflected front signals and direct ambience generated from the rears.
Tube Traps work great in the corners if that is what the room needs. Many times, you can work (painstakingly) at subwoofer and seating placement to correct the major bass problems provided that the optimal position doesn't put you or your fronts in a bad place for imaging or viewing.

Not an easy task. Math works great to get you close. After that, it is just good old fashioned trial and error. Good Luck!

Do you read SGHT? They are running a series on designing a HT and give many of the equations needed to get you started on roughing in the placement.

: I'm in the process of finishing my home theater and have some questions about room acoustics. The room is 23 ft long by 14 1/2 ft wide by 8 ft high.I was planning on finishing the walls and ceiling with 2" pyramid foam. Will this make the room too dead? Can a room be too dead?what are my best options? Thanks in advance.
