Sony has a couple of S-links The first , or Control S was a flat ribbon cable that would allow you to control a component through the host IR port. The second type was also called control S but used a Mono 1/8" mini plug and was used on many TV's and VCR's and some older Audio components. The system is actually a one direction control link to pass not only IR signals but control signals from a Controling VCR for example for editing. Hence the "IN" and "out" ports on some equipment. You could hook up components using the S-Link in a closet and control them with a single IR port on the end component. The third S-Link is called "S-Link A1" and it also uses a Mono 1/8" mini plug but it is Bi-Directional and is not compatable with standard S-Link. If you hook a standard S-Link anywhere in the chain it will void the chain. S-Link A1 does not have an "IN" or "OUT" so you can use either port. The Receiver will have only one port "A1" , the other "A1" equipment will have two ports and you can use either one. One goes to the receiver and the other will go to another S-Link A1 component, that way you can daisy chain them all together and all equipment will respond acordingly. Sony has not been very clear on this and I had to find out this on my own as I also have all three types of control links and they do not work with my new 80ES receiver (just the A1 links) So.... OH Well!!!! I hope this helps LTR R The
