Ditto on the thanks, although before I saw your post back, I called Sony and got pretty much the same answer.

What is most unbelievable is that the customer support person I spoke to found nothing odd about Sony promoting two similar but imcompatible functions on their equipment, and NAMING THEM THE SAME. What's more, he said that you can actually do damage to the equipment trying to connect an A1 control port to a S-Link (non A1) control port.

I've been impressed with Sony equipment up til now, I still love my TV and receiver, but I'm beginning to think that there product development folks are a bit sloppy.
