If you make an analogue connection from your DVD player to the A1 (as well as digital) will the A1 route the analogue audio to the tape outputs? If it does then problem solved. If not then the only thing I can think of is for you to buy a digital splitter (like the Midiman C02 - see link below) to split the digital output from the DVD player, and send one of its digital outputs to a cheap stand alone DAC, the analogue outputs of which feed your audio distribution system. A C02 is about $60, don't know about the DAC. It's not worth investing in an expensive DAC as the modulation you are using to distribute will impair the audio quality anyway.
