Safe? No way! Actually, sunlight is the absolute worst... Do you have any idea how many more times stronger the IR contained in sunlight is than a Universal Remote? Even 30 seconds of sunlight on the IR receiver of your electronic device will blow it's circuits to smithereens.

NEVER PUT YOUR AUDIO/VIDEO EQUIPMENT IN SUNLIGHT! It can truly blow it all up.
