Splicing speaker wire

Posted by Philippe [IP: 209.197.225.177] on July 31, 1999 at 17:13:13
Using Mozilla/4.5 [en] (Win95; I):

I am having a house built and got the builder to pre-wire it for surround sound. I made sure they leave enough wire to go up my stands and to allow to position the speakers.
But now that the sheetrock is up some idiot has cut the wire to a few inches from the receptacle which makes the thing useless.
The builder told me that he would have his electrician splices the wire to extend them to the required length.
Is that solution reasonable? Is there an audible diffence with spliced wires? or is there gonna be such a loss that the sound will be horrible ?
The cable is 16 gauge and I am not very high end.
Thanks in advance

Philippe
