DVD/VCR positioning

Using Mozilla/4.08 [en] (Win95; U ;Nav):

I have a 35" Sony TV with matching stand.At present I have a VCR and Dolby pro logic receiver in the stand.I intend to move up to a DD/DTS receiver and a DVD player shortly. As there is limited space in the stand, the only way that I will be able to fit in a DVD player is if I position it right on top of the VCR(or vice versa). My question is, will this set-up have any negatives effects, both short range or long range,with the operation of either the DVD or the VCR. My only other option is to locate these components in a separate cabinet, which would be about 6-8' away from my TV. Any feedback or suggestions welcome. Thanks.
