Pondering Digital Cable

I have seen, firsthand, TCI's decoder boxes with the "Dolby Digital" logo on them. Now, of course, technically that doesn't mean that the sound has to be 5.1 channel; theoretically, it could be DD 2.0 or even "DD mono" and TCI could still be justified to put the "DD" logo on the box. But that would've been a real cheap stunt on TCI's part...

Of course, you shouldn't expect to get DD 5.1 sound on all digital cable channels. Not even on "most" digital cable channels (if any at all)... I would be surprised if you would find DD 5.1 on anything more than a few PPV channels, and maybe a single HBO channel or so on digital cable (just like the current situation with digital satellite).
