DVD/VCR positioning

Ken,
I thank you for your suggestion re. placing my components in a separate cabinet. I read some of the forum 'threads' and one of them was about ventilation fans. I would still like to be able to locate my DVD/VCR and receiver in my TV stand. If I was to use a fan or fans to cool my equipment, do you think that having these components 'crammed' in the TV stand would work without damaging my equipment? As you can probably tell,I'm a 'newbie' so I appreciate and value your advice. Thanks again
