Good Interconnects! the connectors?

Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0; Windows NT; DigExt):

I have been reading lots of posts about interconnect cables. People seem to think that the cables can make a big difference. How much of the sound improvement is due to the rca connectors. I ask because i want to make some interconnects and good cable can be had by the ft. but i only want to spend $3 each on the rca connector
