Component Grounding Techniques

Posted by Robert Fellows [IP: 155.104.244.16] on September 30, 1999 at 14:30:43
Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows NT):

I have a mild hum that comes out of my Home Theater speakers but not out of the same speakers, when I play music. This hum also only occurs when I watch TV and not when I watch a video, even one that I taped off cable. I’ve tried to ground everything together and to the outlet in the wall, with no success, so it’s probably just a problem with the Jerrold cable box, which to date I haven’t grounded.

I was wondering though if I should try to ground all my equipment to a new outside ground, such as a copper rod driven into the ground, rather than to the house ground that runs to all the outlets and to the electrical service outside the house. Does anyone have any grounding suggestions for either the hum or just in general, for my components. Thanks.
